Beef Tallow Balm: Additional Info & FAQs
What are some tallow balm uses? Tallow balm has many uses including Dry Skin, Anti-aging Face Cream, Eczema, Acne, Sunburn, Diaper Rash (unscented version), & Hair Conditioning Treatment.
What exactly is Tallow? Tallow is rendered fat from beef and other ruminants. Many minerals, nutrients, and fatty acids are found in tallow such as vitamins A, D, E, K & B12 and conjugated linoleic acid. Tallow can be rendered from subcutaneous fat, fat around the muscles, and fat from inside the body. It is typically harder and whiter than suet. Suet is the fat rendered from around the kidneys. Suet is especially high in vitamins and fatty acids. Our tallow products contain both the trim and suet. In traditional cooking, beef tallow (like what might be used in a beef wellington) was prized for its rich flavor and high smoke point.
Why grass-fed tallow? Tallow from cattle fed and finished on only grass, and never fed grain, contains the highest amount of beneficial nutrients. Your grass-fed tallow is from 100% grass-fed cows born, raised, and grazed on native grass pastures in The Flint Hills of Kansas. This ensures the animals never received antibiotics, added growth hormones, or grain, and spent their entire lives on chemical free pastures.
What about smell? The tallow used to make your balm is unrefined. We use a rendering and clarifying process including only low heat and salt. Unlike most commercial tallow, your balm is made without harmful chemicals, bleach, or deodorizers. This process keeps the integrity of the nutrients intact. Tallow rendered this way may have a slight natural smell to sensitive noses. This scent blends pleasantly with the natural smells of the essential oils.
How do you source your ingredients? Our tallow is sourced from beef on surrounding farms. The beef is kept clean and free from chemical inputs. We use a natural triple rendering process to keep our tallow pure. For scent, we use essential oils that contain beneficial properties for the skin. Our criteria when sourcing ingredients is USDA Certified Organic and 100% Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.
Is Tallow Balm Greasy? Beef tallow balm is readily absorbed by our skin. It does not result in a greasy look or feel when not over applied. A little goes a long way. If your skin does not absorb our tallow quickly, you might be applying too much.
Tallow Balm Recipe & How to Use: Our tallow balm recipe is simple: 100% grass-fed beef tallow and organic olive oil, nothing more. Start with small (pea sized) amounts. Hold momentarily against your skin and your body heat will soften/melt it right in. Store at room temperature or cooler. External use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
Shipping and Temperature: Tallow is a natural ingredient and will melt at temperatures of 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not leave in the sun or a hot vehicle. If you are receiving your balm in the warm season, refrigerate before opening. If your product gets warm and starts to soften or melt, a few hours in the refrigerator should restore it.

Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Keep the jar tightly closed and away from heat and water. For long term storage, refrigerate to increase shelf life for up to a year.
